Repeat Unit

The repeating unit is the smallest structural fragment whose repetition builds the whole chain. Subscripts show the relative share of each unit in copolymers.

Key Properties

Lowest coefficient of friction of any solid (~0.04); chemically inert to virtually everything; extremely high melt viscosity means it must be sintered, not melt-processed; poor creep resistance.

Applications

Non-stick cookware, chemical gaskets, PTFE tape, low-friction bearings.
